Recipe: Traditional Glühwein

When winter weather swirls in, nothing could be cosier than a hot mug of glühwein that fills your house with a wonderful aroma and warms you up on a cold winter night. Recipe by our very own President, Daniel Frutiger.

Ingredients

  • 200g raw sugar

  • 750mL red wine

  • 500mL water

  • 2 large orange peels

  • 6 whole cloves

  • 2 cinnamon quills

  • 1 tsp ground nutmeg

Method

  • Combine all ingredients and gently simmer on low-medium heat for approximately 15-20 minutes.

  • Strain to remove spices and orange peels.

  • Serve hot/warm in glasses/mugs.

  • Chef’s tip: add one sachet of rosehip tea for the first 5 minutes of simmering (and then remove) for a wonderful and uplifting floral flavour.
